A diagram distributed using Microsoft Word document or in a Microsoft Power Point document, using the steps described above, can now be modified without having to modified independent of the source diagram.
In order to modify such a diagram, open the Word document using MS Word and right-click the Visio diagram. From the context menu, select Visio Object > Edit.
This will display a Visio like interface right inside the MS Word document as shown below.
While in this mode, you can edit the Visio diagram just like you would do, while using Visio. After making changes to the diagram, click outside the Visio window, anywhere within the word document to exit the process of editing the Visio diagram. However, for larger diagrams this may be a cumbersome way to edit the diagram. Follow the steps below for an alternate way of editing a diagram embedded inside a Word document.
Instead of selecting Visio Object > Edit, you can choose Visio Object > Open. This will open Visio in its own window and the diagram may then be modified in the usual Visio environment. After making changes, while still in Visio, select File > Save & Return to <WordDocumentName> to save the changes made to the diagram into the embedded copy within the Word Document.
