What is Success
In this chapter, you will learn about the 'generic' definition of success. However, as you delve deeper into the pages, you will learn how each person perceives real success and whether it can be measured in terms of emotional fulfillment, financial capabilities or the number of goals that you have crossed out of your 'to-do' list.
The New Webster’s Dictionary of the English Language (International Edition 1994 Revision) defines success as “the success of what is desired or aimed at, achievement. military success, academic success || attainment of wealth, fame, prosperity, etc. || a person who or thing which succeeds”.
When you consider it closely, that is actually a very broad definition. While it may be easily defined in general terms, personal successes are defined, by their very nature, on much more personal terms. The first thing that an individual must do if they wish to truly succeed is to define exactly what their personal success will be.
In This Chapter:
- Defining Personal Success
- This section discusses how success is perceived by each individual.
- Getting on the Road to Success
- Here, you will know how to determine where it is exactly that you would like to go. For you to actually have a starting point, you need be sure of what you want out of life and from there, your journey to success can surely move forward.
- Make a list: Check it twice
- This part is all about making lists, literally. Learn about the importance of keeping a pen and paper handy so that you can write down your personal goals, dreams, aspirations and even fantasies. Think of this chapter as your own personal success journal that you get to compile, keep, organize and finally, make them come to life.
- Come to Order
- Here, you will learn how to prioritize the items on your success list. If you reach a point where you are almost finished with one goal, there may be circumstances that would require you to put a huge purchase, for example, at the back of your to-do-list. This is fine. The point is that you need to be flexible enough and learn how to push an item at the forefront or at the back of your list, whichever is applicable at the time.
