Working with Layers

You can create, delete, rename, duplicate, change colors and do many more interesting things with the help of Photoshop.

You can change the thumbnail sizes making them easier to see and also make them smaller so that they take up less space. To change the size of thumbnail click the arrow at the top right of the layers palette. From the drop down menu choose palette options. Select the radio button of the new size for the thumbnails.

Creating and Deleting Layers

You can create new layers in the following ways, Click the new layer button in the layers palette

Select Main menu > Layer > New layer

Choose New layer from the palette's palette options menu.

To delete a layer drag it to the delete layer (trash can) at the bottom of the layers palette.

Renaming layers

Renaming layers is essential to keep a track. Double click the layers name in the layers palette and type in the new name.

Changing the Layer Color

To choose a color for a layer select layer properties from the pop-up menu. Click the Colors option and choose a color.

Duplicating Layers

To make an exact copy of the player drag the layer to the new layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette. The duplicate layer has the same name as the original with the word copy appended to the end of its name.

Note: You can copy the entire layer or a portion of a layer onto a new layer without changing the contents of the existing layer. You can also cut a selection from a layer and paste it onto a new layer.
