Transform Tools

Photoshop makes transformation of an image like scaling, rotating, flipping skewing, perspective and distortion very simple and easy. These features help images that have been scanned with a wrong orientation, to resize images and to achieve precision results.

You can transform objects or images using two levels of transformations: basic and advanced. Let us see how these can be used.

The basic transformations include scaling, rotating and flipping and the advanced transformations include skewing, perspective and distortion.

Rotating and Flipping. Select image > Rotate canvas. There are four rotation options available.

  • To Rotate. Click and drag the mouse in either clockwise or anticlockwise direction.
  • To Scale sides. Click and drag on any of the side handles. To adjust the width or height.
  • To Scale a corner. Adjust one of the corner handle.
  • Free transform Tool. Select edit > free transform. Right Click anywhere inside the free transform bounding box. The menu appears.

  • To Skew. Drag any of the side handles and the shape will distort into a parallelogram.
  • To Distort. Adjust each handle independently for a free range of distortion.
  • Perspective. Drag one corner and the opposite corner will also move to mirror your transformation
