Tonal Adjustments
A color image consists of a grayscale tone (definition and detail) and the information that makes the image appear in color. Tone is the grayscale information in the image. If a photo is very dark or bright, the problem is with the tonal area of the image. Photoshop helps you resolve this without too much difficulty using the tonal correction tools.
Tina has some photographs of her grandparents which are too dark or blurry, or perhaps unwanted objects are included in the picture. She wants to make certain changes and add a cosmetic touch up. Let us what are these and how they are done.
Tone refers to the grayscale information in an image. You can think of it as a black and white Photo.
The Histogram
The Histogram in Photoshop provides a visual cue to the tonal properties of an image. The histogram shows a graph of the tonal range and dispersion of an image and shows where the pixels are concentrated and how dark or light they are.

We can also see the histogram with the all channels view with statistics and channel in color turned on.

Let us see the settings on the histogram:
- Channel to view the color image or view a separate histogram for each composite channel.
- Layer. You can choose a single layer also.
- Refresh. To see the latest version of the image.
