Sharpening and Cropping

Sharpening helps enhance the blurry images. Cropping helps you to trim the images of the unwanted portions.

Sharpening is used in order to enhance things a bit. Let us see these tools:

Unsharp Mask. Detects the image's edges and then enhance them by adding a tiny white halo. The unsharp mask filter has three settings,

  • Amount. The edges become more predominant if you turn up this setting.
  • Radius. The white actually turns into a glow if you turn up this setting.
  • Threshold. It adjusts the sensitivity of the edge detection

To use Unsharp Mask. Choose Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. In the Unsharp Mask dialog box click preview so that you can see the result on the main image.

Adjust the Amount and radius sliders until you get a good balance. Turn the preview on and off for a comparison of the effect before and after. Set the threshold slider to an acceptable level, affecting only the detail that you choose. Click Ok.
