Selections and Selection Tools

Selections are depicted by animated dashed lines that appear around the selected portion of an image. You can carry out the editing or adjustments in the selected areas while keeping the unselected portions unaffected.

Tina wants to improve on certain portions and the images in the card while keeping the unselected portions from overspray. She uses the selection tools.

By default all selections have "hard" edges. For a softer edged selection you can use feathering. There are two types, in which you can apply feathering,

  • Select a selection tool and the options bar will allow you to enter a feather radius. This will apply to all future selections so be careful before making a selection.
  • You can feather an existing selection by choosing Select > Feather and then entering a feather radius
