Exploring printing options in Photoshop

Tina is finally ready to take a print of the card she has designed. The simple way is to choose File > Print, but there are a lot many exciting features to take a print out which can give the last finishing touches to her work. Let us see what these are:

Printing Options

Choose the paper size from the drop down list and select the orientation of the paper. Click the printer to select the printer of more than one is connected to your computer and click Ok.

To change the Output Size of the Image - In the print dialog Box click the Show Bounding Box option in the Scaled Print Size area. Click a corner point in the preview and drag to make the preview larger or smaller. OR, you can enter a percentage setting in the Scale Field. You can also change the position of the image in the window. Uncheck the Centre Image checkbox in the position area.

Either drag the image to a new position on the preview page or enter the coordinates into the Top and left position fields. Recheck the Centre Image checkbox to centre the image again if you change your mind.

To choose Visible Printing Options - You can change the background colour if you do not want your image to be printed on a plain background. In the bottom half of the Print Dialog box, click the background button. You will see a colour picker. Choose the colour you want to appear on the background. Click ok.

Setting Bleeds. Helps to print all the way to the edge of the paper, as you see in posters, postcards, CD inserts, and brochures. A larger piece of paper is required than the target size. The image is slightly larger than what is needed. To create a bleed select show more options if it is not already checked. Choose the output option in the drop-down menu at the top of this area. Click the bleed button and the bleed dialog box will open. Set the width in inches or whatever you choose. Click Ok.

Printers Marks - The Printer's marks are added to a printed sheet to help the printer accurately align and crop the image. These are

  • Registration marks needed for a colour separation.
  • Corner Crop Marks and Center Crop Marks show where to trim the image.
