Patterns
Repeating patterns make a good alternative to color gradients for filling objects. Any object can be turned into a pattern. Patterns are fairly simple to use and easy to create.
Repeating patterns make a good alternative to color and gradients. Any image can be turned into a pattern.
Photoshop has a number of patterns. To select patterns choose Edit > Fill.

Select Pattern from the drop down list.

To apply a pattern, click any of the thumbnails.

Click ok.
Note: you can also create your own patterns. This helps in saving time as you do not need to create the same object or shape over and over.
