Your Own Domain
How to obtain your own domain name
This choice allows you somewhat creative license to what your site is called, thus giving you a unique site address that people will remember. You definitely want the domain name to mirror your business name or at least be similar. The only catch here is that many times the web site address you would like is already taken; but don't fret if it is, you can get creative and still include your original idea with a little twist.
For example if you visit GoDaddy.com and you want your site to be called www.widgets.com, you perform a domain name search to see if that site is available.

When you click Go!, it will show you whether that domain is available or not.
In this case, widgets.com is not available, however if you scroll down, they give you other suggestions :
You can get creative with it by adding your name, or determining a niche that you can utilize in your name.
The downside to your own domain is that no one else does any advertising or driving customers to your site, you have to do that yourself. You will need to do that anyway, but with some of the other choices, there are already customers going to their site daily, therefore you already have possible customers. Another downside to your own domain is that you will need some knowledge in creating web sites. You can use programs such as FrontPage or Dreamweaver, however you will still need to incorporate things such as your shopping cart and payment methods.
