Hiring a Web Designer
If you would rather hire a web designer to build your site, that is definitely an option, just make sure you shop around before you decide on a designer. There are many designers out there with different price ranges and what is included. You also want to make sure that they have a good reputation and will be willing to make any "tweaks" to the site that you need. You can look on sites like craigslist, and another site that is great is elance.com, where you can post what you are looking for and people will bid on your project, and you choose which bid to accept! There are also sites like Web Design Plaza, where they connect you with web designers based on your budget and needs. When you are looking for web designers, make sure to look at the sites they have built, and ask yourself some questions; there are some starting questions listed below. The easiest way to find a good fit is to find a designer who has built a site you like:
- Is the text easy to read?
- Are the menu links easy to find and intuitive?
- Are there broken links?
- Do you like the overall design of the site?
- Do the pages load fast?
- Are there extra pages such as an about us page and contact information?
If you see a site on the web that you like, look for web designer information and if you don't see any, contact the web administrator to get information on the designer. Once you find someone you may be interested in hiring, there are some questions you will want to ask them:
- Is your work guaranteed?
- What does site design include?
- Does it include maintenance and if not, what is the cost?
- What is the turnaround time for the site?
Along with these questions, explain what it is you are looking to have (i.e. I want an ecommerce store with 100 products, a blog and chat). Provide some examples of sites that you would like your design to be similar to, this way the designer can visually see what you are explaining.
There are so many possibilities out there for your site, so have fun with it, get creative and go make money!!
