Outlook can display your information in different views and formats. Learn about the different views in this guide.

A view defines the way in which Outlook displays information in a folder. You can change the view at any time, modify existing views, or create new ones.

Timeline view

  • It is the default view for Journal.
  • Presents chronological information along a horizontally scrolling bar.
  • Displays items from left to right on a time scale.

Card View

  • It is the default view in Contacts.
  • Displays contact data in an address book fashion, similar to the card file.
  • You can navigate between the records using the buttons.

Icon Views

  • It is the default view in Notes.
  • Records are displayed as icons for each item.

Table View

  • It is the default view in Tasks.
  • Commonly used in all modules.
  • The data is organized in rows and columns.

Day/Week/Month View

  • It is the default view in Calendars.
  • Resembles a day planner.
  • Data for a day/week/month is displayed along with the list of tasks.

The Calendar (Day/Week/Month) view has several viewing options of its own.

Task Pad View - You can view the tasks in different ways such as all tasks, today's tasks, overdue tasks etc.

Switching Views

To switch between views for the current folder choose View > Arrange by > Current view. Select from the list of available views.

Note: You can rearrange the order of columns in a table view by clicking on the column label in the header row and holding the mouse button down and dragging the column label to a new location. Accordingly you can also sort the data in a different order
