Adding a Contact

This guide will show you how to create and add information such as name, email addresses, and phone numbers of your contacts.

There are several ways to get into the Contacts folder. You can add personal and business information such as name, address, the organisation a person works, misc information such as birthdays, anniversaries. You can create your own field such as pets name, favourite food etc as well as edit the existing Information.

Elizabeth has information of all her personal and official contacts stored in her list of Contacts with detailed information. Let us see how she has created her Contact list.

To add a Contact click New Contact button OR choose File > New Contact.

Enter General information

To enter a Contact listing Click the new button or choose File > New > Contact. Enter the Contact's full name. By default the name gets displayed in a different format under File as. You can change this by selecting from the drop down list.

You can input additional information (title such as Mr, ms etc and suffix such as Jr, Sr and so on) by clicking on the Full name button.

Enter the details about the company name and the job title. Three additional options appear in the drop-down list under File As. Select from one of these.

Enter the three types of addresses - business, home and other. The default addresses is business address.

The address listing appears when you click the address button. If you have multiple addresses click the checkbox labelled "This is the mailing address".

Enter the Contacts telephone numbers. You can enter more than four numbers by clicking on the arrow button.

Similarly enter the email address, Contacts Web Page address and Instant Messaging address.Click Save and close OR click one of the other tabs to continue providing information about this Contact.

Enter additional information such as the Contacts nickname, spouse name, directory server, birthdays, anniversaries etc by clicking the Details tab.

The Activities tab lists all the Outlook items with which the Contact is associated, such as other Contacts, email messages and so forth.

Add a piece of security software that acts as an identification card to computers that can read it and proves the identity of the person who possesses the certificate. To use this,

  • Click the Certificates tab > Import button.
  • Find the Certificate tab and click the import button.
  • Find the Certificate and open it to add it to the list.

Edit existing data, view or change specific information, by clicking the All Fields tab. These changes are instantly reflected on the other tabs.

You can add new fields to customize your requirements to add information such as your favourite food, your shoe size, favourite restaurant etc. To do this

  • Click the new button at the bottom in the All fields button.
  • Name the field and enter the type and the format of the field.
