Getting Familiar With The Screen

In this lesson we briefly show you what some of the things you see on the screen are for.

This is the Microsoft Word screen. Let us get familiar with it.

1. Title Bar

Right on top of the screen is the Title bar. It displays the name of the document of the currently active word document. Like other Windows applications, it can be used to alter the size and the location of the Word window.

2.Menu Bar

Located directly below the Title bar. It displays the following menus: File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Tools, Table, Window, and Help. When a menu name is selected, a drop-down list of options is displayed.

3. Toolbars

Word has a number of tool bars that help you perform tasks faster and with great ease. Two of the most commonly used toolbars are the Formatting toolbar and the Standard toolbar.These two toolbars are displayed just below the title bar.You can turn them ON or OFF through the toolbar option found in the View menu.

4. Ruler Bar

The Ruler Bar allows you to format the vertical alignment of text in a document. It displays and sets tabs and indent markers for paragraphs. You can use it to quickly change the format of your document.

5. Status Bar

The Status Bar is located at the bottom of the page. It displays information about the currently active document, such as the page number where you are working, the column and line number of the cursor position, total number of pages, etc.

6. Scroll Bar

The Scroll Bar on the right-hand side helps you scroll or view the content or body of the document. To utilize this, you can either move the elevator button along the scroll bar, or click on the arrow buttons.

7. Workspace

The Workspace is the area in the document window where youenter or type the text of your document. It is the point of insertion for typing within your document.
