Shading Cells

Shading cells is another formatting feature in Excel to help make the information easier to read.

To shade cells in your worksheet,

1. Select cell A1.

2. Click on the Fill Color drop-down list box on the formatting toolbar, and select the color Pale Blue.

3. The dialog box closes. Cell A1 is then filled with pale blue shading.

Activity: Shade the cells as directed.

Cells A2 and B2 — Light Turquoise

Cell C2 — Lavender

Cell D2 — Gold

Cell E2 — lavender

Cell F2 — Gold

Cell G2 — Lavender

Cells HQ and I2 — Light yellow

TIP: Keep it simple! The formatting feature in Excel is a functional tool to help make the information easier to read. It is not a paint brush with which you color the spreadsheet. Remember, too many formatting features, used at once, can turn your data into a jarring document that is difficult to comprehend.
