Entering Data

Here we go over the basics of data entry in Excel.

To enter data, Sean does the following;

1. In cell A3, type the number 1 and press Enter.

2. In cell A4, type the numbers 2 and press Enter.

3. Continue inserting the roll numbers up to cell A17. The last number should be 15.

4. Select cell B3. Type the name of the student, John. Then press Enter.

Sean types the names of all the 15 students in each of the cells from B4 to B17.

1. Next, he types the marks scored in various subjects by each student.

NOTE: Double check these numbers before proceeding further.

TIPS:

1. To enter a fraction, type the integer, then hit the space bar and type the fraction.

2. To enter the current date in a cell, simultaneously press the Control and the semicolon keys.

3. To enter the current time in a cell, simultaneously press the Control, Shift, and colon keys.
