Editing Data

Sean knows that even if he makes a mistake when entering data, he can easily edit it.

Allow Editing directly in a cell or restrict editing to the formula bar

1. On the Tools menu, click Options > Edit tab.

2. To allow editing and typing data in cells, select the Edit directly in cell checkbox.

3. To allow editing and typing data only in the formula bar, clear the checkbox. (The formula bar is the bar at the top of the Excel window that is used to enter or edit values or formulas in cells or charts. It also shows the constant value or formula stored in the active cell.)

Edit Cell Contents

1. Double-click the cell that contains the data you want to edit.

2. Edit the cell contents.

3. To enter or cancel your changes, press ENTER or ESC.

4. To turn editing directly in cells on or off, click Options on the Tools menu, click the Edit tab, and then select or clear the Edit directly in cell checkbox. You can edit in the formula bar when the Edit directly in cell checkbox is cleared.

5. To move your cursor to the end of the cell contents, select the cell and press F2.
