The Seller's Information

Understanding the seller's information

On the right-hand side you will find information about the seller of this item. This information includes their username, how many feedback ratings they have had, their seller status, their feedback rating, member since as well as ways to contact the seller and view the other items the seller is offering, including whether or not they have an eBay store.

  • The first item next to seller is their "username". You can click on their username to get more information such as their rating and any feedback; it takes you to their information page.
  • The next item shown is the number of users that have left positive feedback for this seller.
  • You can click on this link to get more detailed information about ALL of the seller's feedback. When you click on this link, you will get a screen that looks like the one below:
  • This gives you a snapshot of the seller's history. If they don't have alot of feedback, it could be that they are new or created a new identity. You can also look at the "Member since" date to determine this. In this example, their rating is 98.6%, which is very good. However if you look at their negative ratings for the past month, it shows 37, with 115 for the past 6 months and 171 for the past 12 months and a total of 337 negative feedback items left since they joined (in this case being the last 4+ years). While the number of negative feedbacks may seem high, you also have to take into account the volume of business they do. If you take a look, this seller also had 3,281 positive feedback comments in the last 30 days; anyone who has done business knows that it is impossible to have 100% satisfied customers as things do happen that are out of our control, for example the post office may make a mistake in delivering the item, or handle the item roughly and cause damage. While some ebay members understand that this is no fault of the seller, some may still post negative feedback. The best way to get a feel for what types of problems past buyers have had is to look at the actual feedback comments themselves-scroll down on the seller's page to read the comments. It is up to you whether you feel it is ok to do business with this person or not, so judge the weight of what the complaint was along with whether or not there are multiple complaints of the same nature. You do have some degree of recourse if something were to go bad, which will be discussed in the chapter about meditation and resolving issues.
  • You may be wondering what the star next to the seller's feedback rating is, so a chart that was taken directly from ebay help has been included to give you an idea of what they mean; they correspond directly to the seller's feedback rating.
  • There is also a term next to this particular seller that says "Power Seller".

This tells you that this seller upholds fairly high standards both in volume and customer service. There are several criteria that are required before a seller can achieve this status:

  • They must significantly sell a significant volume of items
  • They must maintain a 98% or higher feedback rating
  • They must provide a high level of service to their buyers.
