How to send your items to your buyers
The next section is Shipping and here is where you will enter either a flat rate or price by weight/location as well as where you are willing to ship. First choose a shipping method:
- Flat-same cost to all buyers - This means the shipping rate is determined ahead of time, regardless of the buyer's location. Ensure that you factor in what the highest possible cost will be based on location and weight. You want to ensure you don't eat into the profit of your item. For example, if your item sells for $20 and you charge only $5 for flat rate shipping but when you actually ship it, it costs $10, you now cut $5 into the $20 you made on the item (that $20 is not including deducting out your listing fees yet either).
- Calculated - Cost varies by buyer location. If possible, this is the recommended solution as you can charge specific to the buyer's location and weight of the package. You only need to know the weight and where you are shipping from and their software will show the buyer what it will cost for this item to be shipped to them.
- Freight - Large items over 150 lbs
- No shipping - local pickup only -This is used if the item is extremely large and cost-prohibitive to ship or any other type of restriction.
The next choice is the size of the package and the weight
After choosing the size and weight, you now have options to give the buyer of different methods and/or companies, as well as the option to research the cost here.
- You can click on the "Research rates" link to see the differences in options. As you see in the drop-down list there are many choices and many carriers and you can offer up to three services; for example you may want to offer regular mail, priority and next day.
- The next section allows you to specify where you will and will not ship to. This is completely a personal preference. Keep in mind that there may some restrictions or requirements for shipping outside your country and to APO/FPO (military) addresses.
- Your country should be listed under "Additional ship to locations". If you only want to ship within your country, leave this the way it is. If you would like to ship to additional locations, place a check mark next to the locations you are willing to ship to. If you have questions about shipping to other countries, contact the provider you will be using for shipping (i.e. USPS, UPS, FedEX, DHL) for more information.
- The next section shows the location you are shipping from as well as whether you want to offer a shipping discount. This is a great incentive for some buyers not only to purchase this item but also to browse your other items (if you are selling more than one). You will set a price of the discount, for example, full shipping for the first item and only $5 for the second. You can place the check mark here, and you will set the specifics later (and in your description-so you may need to go back and add that to your description when you are done with this).
