Managing Sold Items

What to do with sold items

Once your listing has ended, you will receive an email letting you know that it has ended as well as the details (whether someone bid on the item and details or that your item didn't sell). Most likely you will be aware if someone has bid on it, as I'm sure you've been tracking it's progress and getting excited if someone bid on your item, it's natural!

If you were lucky enough to have your item sold, congratulations!

eBay will automatically send an invoice to the winning bidder in most cases. You can visit "My eBay" to check on the status; you will see the item under "Items I've Sold". The links in the upper left corner allow you to view by items you've sold or just those that are awaiting actions such as payment, shipping or feedback. Here's an overview of the icons and their meanings:

  • You can use the menus in the Actions column to:
    • View payment status
    • Mark the item as shipped
    • Mark the item as paid
    • Leave feedback for the buyer

(One of the choices here is to ship the item, which will then direct you to the PayPal web site. This can be a helpful way to ship as it is then tied to the item and the information is sent to the buyer. To do so, click on "Ship" in the Action menu and follow the instructions. You are not required to ship this way however.)

  • Once the item has sold, you still need to await payment from the buyer before shipping the item. It is suggested that you wait to ensure payment is received; although most people do pay, you don't want to ship the item only to realize the buyer never intended to pay or have to resolve a dispute. It is better to be safe than sorry in this situation!
