Miscellaneous Expenditures
Miscellaneous Expenditures item in your bugget is one of those all inclusive spots for everything that does not fit anywhere else.
This is one of those dreaded all inclusive spots for everything that does not fit anywhere else. It is said to be dreaded because this is where the unavoidable expenditures are going to be placed. A gentleman by the name of Murphy once said that whatever can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible moment. While some people consider him to be an optimist, he did have both his reasons and valid points for what he was saying when he said that.
When your car has a flat tire and you have to spend money to get it fixed, that payment amount will be included here. When your child falls down and breaks one of his brand new teeth and the dental insurance will not cover it, that expense is written down here. Life is expensive, that is just a fact. It is not likely a fact that is going to change any time soon either. You may just as well get used to that idea right now.
Many times, little problems arise that can neither be foreseen nor planned for properly or adequately. These do seem to come at the worst possible times as well. No matter what the expense is, it should be included in the budget. While many of these costs will not be in the original budget (Really, did you know you were going to have that flat tire two weeks before it happened?) as the budget is revised with more accurate and precise financial information, this information should all be included.
Nobody will know exactly how much money every bill is going to be before it even arrives in their own home. While many people keep very accurate knowledge and will have a better idea of how much is going to be spent, it is doubtful that anybody will know every individual figure without fail and never be more than a few pennies off.
However, proper budgeting will put you in a position to have a better and more complete track record of all of your expenditures. Over the course of time it will be more possible to adjust the primary budget accordingly before the bills arrive. As time goes on, you will have a better idea of any and all seasonal and monthly expenditures and will be more readily prepared to deal with adverse circumstances when they arise.
The closer you can get to actual amounts, the less time you will have to spend revising your budget and the more time you can spend working on other, more important aspects of your debt management. Accurate knowledge and good record keeping are imperative and should always be a part of your debt management plan.
