Attaching Heatsink
Next, you need to attach the CPU heatsink.
We will now attach the CPU heatsink. You will notice that the bottom of the heatsink is protected by a plastic cap. There are two reasons for this, first the bottom of the heatsink needs to be as clean as possible to ensure the best possible heat transfer. The second is for the “chewing gum” part to remain intact. The grey or pink pad is made of a heat transfer material that will help your CPU remain cooler.

Be sure that no space is left between the CPU and the heatsink.
Attach the power cable to the motherboard connector. The label of the connector you need to use is CPU_FAN. Why is there a specific connector? The most current generation motherboards will have a 4 pin connector (2 for power, 1 for monitoring and 1 for controlling the speed fan) only for the CPU fan. If you plug it on another one your fan will work and your CPU will be cooled. You may receive warnings from the bios at boot and the system might not be able to lower the fan speed (and the noise) when you are using little power or raise it (better cooling) when your are doing a CPU intensive task.
